This week I decided to write about a very emotional story called My sister's keeper, it's about a young girl with cancer and her parents decide to have another child so that they can save they're daughter with cancer. By using in-vitro fertilization (IVF) which according to MNT "In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most common and most effective type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) to help women become pregnant. The procedure involves fertilizing an egg outside the body, in a laboratory dish, and then implanting it in a woman's uterus." (If anyone is interested on learning more about this subject I put a link at the bottom of the page and if you would just like to know the general idea I also put a video for you.) By using that method they were able to create a child that genetically matched they're other child so that she could donate organs to her sister so that she could live. In the film the oldest daughter Kate was sick and her younger sister Anna was her organ donor but in real life it was still the oldest child Molly Nash with cancer but instead it was her younger brother Adam Nash who was her organ donor. "We were doing the right thing for our family," Lisa Nash said. According to StarTribune/ LifeStyle "When their story first became public, reaction from around the globe ranged from astonishment to horror and helped fuel the backlash against embryonic research. Molly's doctor at the U, Dr. John Wagner, was accused of playing God". I think in one way it's ok and in another way I don't. It's good because you save the life of the child you love but in another way it's wrong because the kid that is born to save the other one doesn't have input in this situation and what if there life is in danger and they end up getting hurt or end up dying trying to save the other one." Molly is in most ways a typical 14-year-old who loves text messaging her friends and performing in the theater. "Molly lets me do the worrying. She knows what happened with her was a miracle, but she's now focused on being a teenager," her mom said." This was said by PR NEWWIRES.
This week I decided to talk to you guys about a incredible movie called 50/50 this movie it's a comedy and drama all put in one it shows the struggle and the pain of a young man with cancer. His name was Will Reiser he was a good friend of Seth Rogen he had spinal cancer. Acording to the cancercenter.com spinal cancer develops from cells within the spinal cord or from it's surrounding structures ( the bones, tissues, fluid or nerves of the spine. But the first time he went to the doctor they thought it was lymphoma which acording to medicalnewstoday.com it is a cancer of the lymph system ( or lymphatic system), which is part of our immunity. It is characterized by the formation of solid tumors in the immune system this cancer affect immune cells called lymphocytes which are white blood cells. I thought this movie was, funny, heartwarming and relatable. Funny because of the remarks made and all the facial expression during the scenes. Heartwarming because of the tale, one of the most heartwarming part in my opinion is when her goes for his surgery and he's waiting to be taken to the operating room and he tells his dad he loves him and his dad says "ok" because he couldn't remember him due to Alzheimer's, I thought that part was really sad. It's relatable because thousands of people around the world have cancer and go threw struggles just like he did. Even if this movie is about someone going threw they're battles against cancer they were still able to add humor in there which I thought was a great idea. Watching this movie I couldn't imagine all the stress he was going through and all the stress his loved ones were going threw seeing someone you love go threw pain like that is extremely difficult to watch and it scary to know that they can be taken away from you. Accoording to Canada.ca
97,700 Canadian men will be diagnosed with cancer and 40,000 men will die from cancer.
93,600 Canadian women will be diagnosed with cancer and 36,600 women will die from cancer.
On average, 524 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer every day.
On average, 210 Canadians will die from cancer every day.
This week I decided to write about a movie called Bernie, this movie is about a funeral director in Texas who became good friends with a old widow. After being friends for a good period of time she became possessive of him and always wanted him around. She fired all her help so he had to do everything for her. I thought it was a pretty good movie, It explained the story in a easy way so that it would be easy to follow. Throughout the movie they showed people in the town commenting on him and how they knew him and what kind of person he was. In the movie everyone thought he was a nice generous man who always wanted to help others and he was so I think it was hard for everyone to believe the crime he committed. In real life during his adolescents Tiede was the victim of sexual abuse which a psychiatrist concluded caused a "dissociative episode" which lead to the shooting of Nugent. Acording to texas monthly Bernie will live in Richard Linklater's garage apartment. Bernie Tiede being led into the Panola County court house by law enforcement officials in Carthage, Texas, Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Meaning he was released may 6 2014 after 15 years. Washington post said "This is a moderately crazy story involving a mortician getting convicted of murder, spending 15 years behind bars, having his story told in a movie starring Jack Black and, ultimately, being released to move in with the acclaimed director of said movie" Being a mortician was his original job and if you don't know what it is a mortician is the person who prepares dead bodies for funeral or cremations. I thought this movie was very interesting you don't really see a lot of movies with that kind of story line. You never know what people can be capable of, no one expected Bernie to ever kill someone because he was so nice but he did, so you can never under estimate someone because they're capable of the same things as everyone else.
This movie was suggested to me by a friend and I've seen the movie but I had no idea that it was based on a actual event. 50 first dates is based on a story of 2 people who's names are. Ian and Michelle Philpots. She had been in one motorcycle accidents and one car accident causing her to have severe head trauma and memory lost, every morning she wakes up not remember anything that happen the day before and every morning her husband has to convince her their married and when she doesn't believe him, he will shows her their wedding photos. Luckily they were dating before her memory lost so it wasn't like in the movie where she would be waking up to a total stranger every morning. To be able to keep up with everything going on Michelle writes several post-it notes and reminders on her phone. In the movie Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore and up having a kid but in reality the couple did not have any children. Like my last blog about the movie The Vow with Channing Tatum who play the husband and Rachel McAdam who play the wife it's about love but this time it's a little different in this case Adam Sandler wasn't married to Drew Barrymore at that point and because of her short term memory lost Drew forgot everything that happen the day before so it was sort of like she was living the same day over and over again. But in the Vow Rachel McAdam had a long term memory lost making her unable to remember her marriage and life with her husband. I honestly don't know what I would do in Adams place, because you would have to be super patient and I could do that but because they had a kid, I think it would be really hard on the kid because one of their parents doesn't even know they exist until someone explains it to them. And it would be sad because they wouldn't remember all the thing they've done together not only for the kid but for the family in general. I like the idea of making a video to watch every morning to remind her of things so that she has proof and it's not just someone saying oh yeah we're married and we have a kid.
This week I'm going to write about the movie 12 years a slave,if you haven't heard of it, it's about a free man who one day gets kidnapped and sold into slavery. His name was Solomon Northup he was born July 10 1807 in Minerva, Essex county, New York, USA. The actor that played him in the movie was Chiwetel Ejiofor he was born July 10, 1977 in Forest Gate, London, England, UK. Solomon was tricked by two men who had heard of his musical talents and told him they were looking for someone with his talents for the circus. Then they kidnapped him and sold him into slavery. Solomon was an incredible violinist he has played ever since he was a little boy. After he was sold his name was changed from Solomon Northup to Platt Hamilton. In the movie they say Solomon had a wife a son and a daughter but in real life he had a wife named Anne (Hampton) Northup a daughter named Margaret and their son Alonzo who were shown in the film but their other daughter Elizabeth was left out. Edwin Epps was one of the cruelest in my opinion because he would go through these moods sometimes he would go through a dancing mood where he would make exhausted slaves dance for fun, he also had a whipping mood this mood mostly came when he was drunk and he would just whip them for fun. Samuel Bass was responsible for Solomon release he has written a letter to New York and it had eventually caught the attention of a New York Whig attorney Henry B. Northup who so happened to be a relative of Solomon's father former Master. Henry was a part of the family that took in Solomon's father when he was freed. Honestly it's really upsetting to know that people were treated like that just because of the skin color. Thanks to people like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, African American's and Caucasians now have equal rights.
The vow is a heart throbbing story about two people
deeply in love but everything changes when they get in a car accident and she wakes
up not remembering her life and her loved one. In this movie Channing Tatum
play the husband whose name is Leo and Rachel McAdam who plays the wife Paige
Collins. They're real names are Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, in 1993 the couple
went to their first Thanksgiving dinner as husband and wife but it didn't go as
planned. Krickitt was in a coma for weeks after the car accident of the two trucks
colliding, when she woke up she forgot the last 18 months of her life including
her loving husband Kim. This story talks about an event that could have changed
the lives of those who really cared for her, for better or worse. He needed to
find a way for her to fall in love with him all over again. In my opinion I
think that would have been extremely difficult, because it's not like they're
falling in love for the first time, where they're still learning new things
about each other every step of the way. No they've already been in love they
know everything about each other, but when one person forgets and the other one
still remember, it would be hard, because what if she doesn’t love him anymore,
what if she's become a totally different person what if she changed her mine, where would that put him. But thankfully they're still
together till this day with their beautiful son and daughter. I couldn’t imagine being in
their position, waking up and finding out that you`re married and not knowing the person you fell in love with. I couldn't picture it, it would probably be very frustrating if I woke up to a husband that I don't remember at all and having to figure everything out for a second time, but luckily she fell in love with him all
over again, and that why true love never dies because it will always find its
way.
Soul Surfer is a movie about a young girl named Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm surfing on the Kauai north shore. She was born February 8 1990 on the island of Kauai Hawaii.
On October 31 2003 she lost her arm to a 14 foot tiger shark. Bethany lost 60% of her blood and went through several surgeries luckily without and infections. Just after 1 month she wanted to get back in the water and follow her dream. I think that it would take extreme bravery to get your arm taken away by a shark and still want to get in the water, if I were in her position i wouldn't get anywhere near the water because I would be scared out of my mind, you would probably never see me in an ocean ever again. I couldn't imagine the pain she went through and how hard it's must have been to get used to only one arm to do your every day activity but there are lots of people who only have one arm or one leg it happens sometimes they're born like that another times it's an accident. Nick Vujici was born without arms or legs, he lives a happy life with his wife and son, he goes around the world to share his story with all those around him. I thought his story and Bethany's story were very inspirational because even without arms and legs he's happy and doesn't stop doing what he love same goes for Bethany she didn't stop surfing just because she lost her arm she kept going and doing he thing she loved. Even with one arm Bethany managed to get back out there, a year later she won 1 st place at the Explorer Women's division in 2005. Not only that she has had several other amazing accomplishment like, so it comes to show that you don't need all your limbs to follow your dreams. At the age of 23 she got married to a Christian youth minister named Adam Dirks.
Lone Survivor is a movie that express bravery, selflessness, friendship, and the struggle of having to work in the army. This story is about 4 men who work for United States Navy Seals, and they go to Afghanistan during the war for their mission ( Operation Red Wings) to track down a Taliban leader called Ahmad Shah. This eye catching movie is called " Lone Survivor" staring Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster and Eric Bana. Marc Wahlberg as Marcus Luttrell, Taylor Kitsch asLieutenantMichael P. "Murph" Murphy, Emile Hirsch as Danny Dietz, Ben Foster as Matthew "Axe" Axelson and Eric Bana as Lieutenant CommanderErik S. Kristensen. In this movie you see 4 friends finding a way to get back home. During their trip they see that not everyone is the same, not everyone want the same things and just because someone is from the same country does not mean they stand for the same things . It also shows the tough decisions people have to make, through the tuff times. I would recommend this movie to anyone because it was a very deep and emotional movie when you think about how that actually happen to someone and their families. Looking back at it it's amazing what some people would do for those around them and for their country and for all those who work in the army, I give them props because I think that would take lots of bravery and self-sacrifice, because you give up so many thing, you don't see your family for months at a time, you can pass away during the battle, if you have kids you wont see them grow up, so really they take there lives to make ours better. I would like to thank all those who are out there fighting for are country and hope for the best for you and your families.
I love and admire movies based on true stories, I find them fascinating. When you watch a movie that is based on real life events it really makes you think of what other peoples lives might be like. You think to yourself "wow that actually happened" and you wonder "would I have reacted that way, what would I have done?". Several movies based on true stories talk about things that don't happen on a daily basis. For example "Soul Surfer" when Bethany Hamilton played by AnnaSophia Robb is attacked by a shark while she was out surfing. Bethany tragically lost her arm but she was very lucky to have survived a shark attack. In my opinion this subject is relevant because they are real life experiences, people thrive on other peoples experiences and they find it interesting. These movies are based on the kinds of things that don't happen to everyone, that is why we find these movies interesting. It's also a learning experience, you can learn what life used to be like or how people live in different countries. We can also learn how certain situation effects someone's personality, their mental health and their way of life. I honestly believe that when they make movies based on true events, it's because something crazy has happened or it's a story that will inspire other people. I might be about a subject that could help someone in the future or in the present. Could you imagine, losing your family or your friends? What if today was your last day on earth, would you do something different? "Honestly, I don't know." Life is a difficult subject not everyone will pass with flying colors, life isn't like a movie, you won't always get the perfect ending. That is why I find seeing movies that are based on true events takes us out of the dream of a perfect ending and it brings us back to reality where things don't always go the way we would like it to. Everything happens for a reason and we all have our own destination in life whether it's a great or a crazy experience, a sad experience or an experience that seems bad at first but gets better later. We just have to see where life takes us, but either way we are still in control, we make the decisions and we make the mistakes.
